I got asked last week from an email subscriber if he could give me a buzz and ask me a few questions about what we do and why we do it etc as he is looking at careers options etc
Of course I said I would as I will always try to help anyone if I can.
1 question he asked me was what motivates me in regards to training people and being involved in the Fitness Industry
and that’s an easy question to answer.
Coming from a sporting background you can see the same patterns in sports coaching as you do in the Fitness Industry
80% of coaches are just winging it hoping things work out and think they are great if they read 1/2 books in the entire year.
These are the coaches “hoping” things work out and are great when the goings good but when things go against them then it hasn’t nothing to do with them whatsoever
Well then why the hell get involved in the first place??
15% to 19% are a level above that and will work hard and try to bring a good level to things
Then you have your 5% to 1% who take responsibility for everything that happens in their sessions and always trying to improve and get the best out of people.
While it’s a matter of opinion if I am, and our trainers, are in that 5%/1% bracket I would like to think we are always striving to be.
And that is probably the one driving factor that get’s me fired UP!!
In return for our call he sent me a little story of how these emails have helped him out:
I just thought I would drop you a mail to say hi and to thank you for the ongoing motivation. I subscribed to your mailing list over a year ago and have thoroughly enjoyed receiving your weekly nuggets of wisdom ever since. Your’s is a voice of reason in a world full of extreme diets and fad fitness crazes. You common sense approach coupled with a genuine interest in getting people fitter ,healthier and happier is inspiring.
Even though I am not a member of either of your gyms as I live nowhere near Cavan or Dundalk, you have been responsible for me never missing a Monday in my own gym and setting me up for a good week. I have followed your advice and have used MyFitnessPal to track my food intake and be more responsible about what I put in my body. As a consequence I have become more in control , have a lost a bit more weight and am happy with my progress.
Just thought I would drop you a line to let you know that you are having a positive impact on the lives of people you may never meet and to thank you for the ongoing inspiration.
Keep up the good work!
Like everyone, I have good and bad days!
Sometimes I feel like a bad ass and that we are doing great things to change people’s lives
and other days I feel like a we should able to do so much more.
So I guess we will just have to see what the future brings in that regard.
Anyhow, more importantly!
We are now officially into November, children are back to school and we are on the home straight to Xmas.
So get your session in today and set yourself up right for the week
