I’ve always loved the Charles Barkley quote that goes along the lines of:
“I know I’m never as good or bad as one single performance. I’ve never believed in my critics or my worshippers, and I’ve always been able to leave the game at the arena”
and in the past 8-10 weeks I have received a lot of praise for the work we have done while being closed
While also hearing some criticism, on the ole grapevine of course, that I didn’t handle it well and that I’m Mr. Bad Business man.
well such is life.
I put critical emails up here to show everyone that you arn’t alone listening to negative dumbass nonsense.
We all have to listen to it but it’s how you handle it.
But no matter how mentality strong you get it can still wear you down and if you let them, these people will break you.
Luckily I receive emails like this now and again to cheer me right up:
Hey Darragh,
I know it’s been years since attending your gym but as a constant reader of your emails I feel this one in particular was worth replying to. If anything, just to give you an outside view.
Firstly I have to commend you on everything you’re doing with regards to this pandemic.
Not only with disinfecting everywhere, keeping equipment sterilised and such but continuing to email your members with updates and doing what’s best for them.
I really haven’t seen or met any other trainers like you and this is a component of a high regard.
I’ve also noticed you mention that people have tried to sneak in without paying membership and wow, all I can say is wow.
Maybe it’s just me being me, but I genuinely never thought people could be like that. So fair play on also trying to put a stop to that!
Another positive mention to your Instagram posts which are incredible!
Between exercises and food plans/pictures of meals etc you give great ideas for things to make and do.
Which is especially handy for me because I’m too lazy to Google and I always find something on your posts that I can make with what I have at home. Or something close enough.
From what I can see you’re doing everything right with the latex gloves, hand sanitiser, keeping classes limited and space distancing.
Darragh you are truly what every PT should be and I can not speak highly of you enough.
This email may be a little disorganised, but hopefully it’ll come across as an appreciation email and letting you know that you’re still helping others even just with an odd email.
Hoping this finds you well.
Regards
Well,
awww shuckssss.
Ain’t that cool to receive.
And the response to our Outdoor sessions has been great so we mustn’t be all that bad.
But more importantly than the narrow minded haters.
Use their energy to get FIRED UP and start kicking some azzz.
Cause you know that sticks in them like a knife through the heart.
So don’t forget.
Think Big And Kick Ass
Darragh
PS
Don’t forget we are opening for outdoor group training on Monday the 8th of June with the same timetable as before.
As we can only take smaller numbers in a session to start things will be tighter but that’s just the way things will be for the next few months.
